How are you all doing through these storms?

It’s really howling again around here but there’s been a shift in the wind direction and for where we are situated I actually feel twitchier with these NW winds than I did those monstrous SW winds we had through Friday morning. Some seriously big trees have come down around here, including one that was about 50yds from the side of our house, but so far we have been very lucky. I know though that far too many people and their properties have not been okay - how are you all doing?

When those winds dropped a bit later on Friday afternoon we went out for a dog walk that wasn’t near any trees, and I saw a bloke I know who volunteers up at the Rame Head coastguard station. He was saying that he seriously struggled to walk/crawl from his car to the coastguard building on Friday morning because it was that windy, and if I am correct I think there were gusts to about 95mph out at Rame Head! All the schools around here were shut so it felt like lockdown all over again at home with my wife trying to teach remote lessons from a laptop and my girls doing their school work upstairs. We didn’t lose power or internet so we got lucky, but with the strength of the gusts currently slamming into the back of our house I hope I haven’t spoken too soon.

I sincerely hope that you are all doing okay and that you haven’t been too badly affected by this brutal weather. Maybe it’s the Brit and our obsession with weather in me, but I always feel that we’re going to cop an unfortunate one when we get such a prolonged period of what I tend to call “nothing weather” - mild for the time of year, mostly light winds, a bit grey, nothing really going on - but that bad? The weekend and right now out there is one of those times when the forecasters were spot on with the warnings. You all please take care………….
