Brand new video up on my YouTube channel - lure fishing for wrasse in the magical Isles of Scilly
This editing stuff requires a lot of early mornings tied to my desk! The more I do this “filming myself” thing, the more I realise how far away I am from knowing that much about what I’m doing with video cameras and editing and so on, and also how much I wish I had asked for it to be part of my contract back in my fishing TV days that I get to sit with the editor as they built the programmes from all the footage that was shot. Both my younger brothers are seriously good editors and filmmakers, and whilst I might be able to catch the odd fish or two from time to time, I remember enough about making TV programmes many years ago now to realise that filming related work is not very easy at all if you want to make something at least mildly worthwhile!
Above is a short film from a lure fishing for wrasse session that I did out in the Isles of Scilly last week. I obviously asked my mate Del if he is remotely bothered about me showing a typical wrasse mark over there, but he feels the same as me about the fishing out there - there’s so much of it and so few local and visiting anglers that putting marks on camera isn’t remotely an issue. Oh how I wish it could be the same with filming some of my bass fishing which I can’t even think about doing at most of the marks I might fish and want to protect for a number of obvious reasons.

I am pleased with how it has turned out, but I also recognise how many shots are missing as I was concentrating on filming as much of the actual fishing as possible because my time was a bit limited. You all have a good weekend, hope you are finding a few fish, the more of this bass fishing stuff I am doing in estuaries, the more I am realising how much more is out there and how little I really know so many of the waterways here in the south west. I’d have walked away from fishing a long time ago if this obsession didn’t force me to keep on learning all the time………….
