Amazing first day and a bit of guiding with our first group, damn it feels so good to be back out here and I get to call this work!

Wow, and on so many different levels. Being back out here in Ireland, being back in Kerry, seeing John and Lynn again after far too long, getting to do this co-guiding work I do love doing, getting to see some of our clients again because we get some really good people on these trips, I could go on and on - and the fishing’s been pretty good as well! Hell, I even had a quick go myself the day before we started this first guide trip. One of our lads arrived fairly early so I took him out on the beach and then a stunning bit of reef. We caught bass, I nearly cried I was so excited at everything about doing this stuff again, poor lad must have thought I was cracked!

Above is the last fish of our first day with our first group and Michael above hooked the 64cms bass on a Surf Seeker in that green colour and I was standing next to him when the fish hit. Don’t get me wrong, I very obviously love fishing and catching fish myself, but it’s some buzz to watch a guy get absolutely nailed like that! Michael got one hell of a scrap of the fish and it was the perfect end to what I reckon was just about the perfect day.

John made an interesting call this morning. Some terns suddenly appeared and starting working on small sandeels, and John got one of our lads to change lures to something a bit smaller which could swing around in the turbulence a bit better than the heavier lures were doing. He clipped on the little Sandeel Pencil SW 90 in that lemon back/orange belly colour, and in no time at all Declan above landed a 66cms bass quickly followed by one of 68cms. This is as good as it gets in my book, and there is no place I would rather be. The fact that I get to call this stuff work almost isn’t right. I will try and keep you up to date with what’s going on but please excuse the odd lapse because we’re putting long days in here. Damn it’s so good to be back out here……….
