Was I really going to catch? Had to have a go, conditions were lovely, the light went loopy, and I got to play with some lures I bought over the weekend

I simply couldn’t resist heading out to the coast on Monday afternoon when I saw a bit of swell rolling in on the webcam. I know it’s early March, but if I hadn’t thought what the hell and gone for it at the end of March last year, I wouldn’t have caught my best bass of 2024. If you don’t go then you’ll never know. I found some pretty good conditions yesterday so I gave it a good go - and blanked!

But the light went a bit loopy for a while and I got to fish some of the lures I had bought at the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend. Storm got her third walk of the day, we never saw another soul, and to be honest the world felt pretty damn good. I’d have loved a bass or two, but for all my open coast efforts in March over the years, my returns have been on the lean side to put it mildly. A friend of mine missed a really good bass in an estuary I know the other day. He saw the fish plain as day and struck a touch too early with his creature bait, but again it gets me thinking about where I should potentially be concentrating my efforts at this time of year. As much as I enjoy my estuary fishing though, I am not going to get the sort of photos you see here when fishing these quieter waterways……………..
