Rather glorious first morning’s fishing out here in Ireland

The signs were good when I was wading out to see if we could get across to a specific rock in the dark this morning and there were sandeels shooting about all over the place. Within a few minutes one of our lads was into this bass below. All four anglers had a bunch of bass between them on a lovely clear and fairly cold autumn morning out here in Kerry. The successful lure for the first while when we had a strong run of current in the dark was the white Gravity Stick Paddletail on a belly-weight weedless hook, indeed one of our lads wasn’t catching until I changed his (white) paddletail over to a (white) Gravity Stick. A few casts later and he was into bass and I think he then caught three bass on three consecutive casts…………..

As we started to lose a bit of water and it began to get lighter, we shifted our lads down a bit and put them on the Savage Gear Sandeel Pencil 125 lures. A perfect lure for covering a lot of water because with the way the location is shaped there are numerous options to cover different bits of water at different states of the tide. There was just enough wave action to obviously shift sandeels around and a few more bass were caught at range on the Sandeel Pencil, then when things went quiet we headed back for breakfast which will be followed by a lot more lure fishing. The weather out here is glorious, the first trip has started off really well, we’ve got a great group of lads, there is loads of laughter as always, and as ever I get to do this work here in Ireland which I absolutely love. More to come when I get some spare time.
