Not ideal for bass fishing perhaps, but when was the last time we had such consistently stunning weather in spring?

I reckon it was about nine years ago when we had what I would call a really good spring, and I remember it because we were having some work done to our kitchen here at home and we had to eat most of our meals outside. We completely lucked out with a lot of very good weather which made the whole thing a lot easier, but seriously, when was the last time we ever had a spring as consistently stunning as this one? I know the world’s gone mad and we are only relatively recently able to get out and about more, but it seems as if nearly every morning I get up nice and early to be greeted by the signs of another glorious spring day and a wonderful cacophony of bird song. For a brief while each morning it feels like everything is as it was……………..

It was interesting to see how the bass fishing at night seemed to be pretty good around here when we were allowed out again, but unless I am a truly crap angler (very possible!) and I am making consistently bad decisions, it’s been tough on the bass fishing front around here recently. I am not surprised at all with how calm and clear the conditions are, but even with that blow we had where we found some seriously tasty seas out on the rocks the other day, it’s been hard work. It always fascinates me how some parts of the country seem to be fishing well when other parts aren’t, and whilst we all want to keep our locations and so on very quiet, how interesting would it be to be able to plot accurate bass catches and activity and so on around the UK? As and when the surf fishing kicks off for example, would other areas of the UK and indeed Ireland where you might find surf conditions follow suit because presumably a lot of bait has moved inshore and the bass are on it?

Anyway, I do hope that a number of you here are able in some way to enjoy this amazing weather. Please excuse the quality of the photos today because they are off my iPhone, but if there is one thing this lockdown is going to do for me personally is give me so many memories of proper time spent with my wife and two girls in a part of the world where we still pinch ourselves on a regular basis that we actually live here. If you know where to go around here you can find very quiet beaches and walks and so on, and if there is one thing we are happy doing as a family it’s walking and making a bit of an effort to get to places. I have shot so many (iPhone) photos of my family over the last few months and I guess that at some point in the future I will look back at them and remember these mad times when life was far removed from normality. You all please stay safe and well……………….
