I know we obsess and complain about the weather all the time here in the UK, but how much rain can there actually be in the sky? Interesting new lure rod coming for a test though.

Wow was that some rain over the weekend, and it doesn’t feel like it’s remotely finished yet. You expect plenty of wind down here in Cornwall at this time of year, and of course you also expect a good bit of rain to go with it, but this much? I have lived near and fished The Tamar for more than twenty five years now but I honestly can’t remember seeing it quite as brown as it is right now, to the point where if I was to photograph the water I reckon you’d think it was the upper reaches of the mighty Bristol Channel. How about this for a challenge? Catch a bass in The Tamar on a lure right now. Hell, catch a bass from the shore on a lure anywhere around SE Cornwall in the next few days and it’s time for a gold medal……………

When it gets really wet I tend to gauge a day by the sets of waterproofs I need to wear and then try to dry out for our dog walks. A typical day sees me/us take Storm out sheepdog out for three dog walks, and then depending on what day of the week it is she may also get various runs and bike rides with our two girls, plus more walks depending on where we might be going and so on. I honestly don’t think that Storm even knows what torrential rain is because I have never, ever seen her shy away from a dog walk or run or bike ride in the eight years we have had her. I have had dogs all my life and surely one of the best things is how they get you out and about whatever the weather is doing. Hell, it’s been that wet and the ground is so muddy and wet that I have taken to going on a lot of my dog walks in my breathable chest waders and a pair of wading boots. Anybody looking forward to spring?!

Still, at least I’ve got a new lure rod on its way to me for a bit of a test, and it’s one I am seriously interested to see what it might be like. I blogged the other day about this new range of updated Lunamis rods from Shimano Japan and what rods in the huge range Shimano Europe in their mighty wisdom might make available to what I would suggest is a fairly big and very varied (sea) bass market here in Europe. As per above and exactly as I thought, there are some very obvious gaps in the range of Lunamis rods for the European market - where’s the “standard” 9’ 35g rod for example, and where’s the 10’+ weapon for the north coasts of Spain and Portugal, but what do us bass anglers know about what we want anyway? I have the Shimano Lunamis S96MH 9’6’’ 10-45g (Jigs to 56g, not 100% sure yet what that implies) rod on its way to me, and I am itching to see how it compares to the fantastic Shimano Dialuna S96M 9'6" 8-45g (review here) and then what is 100% the best and most versatile lure rod I have ever fished with, the ridiculous Shimano Exsence Genos S90MH/R 9' 8-48g (review here). This brand new 9’6’’ 45g Lunamis is priced at £335 right here and I can’t wait to see what it’s like. More to come when it arrives……………
