I caught my best bass of 2024 on 26th March, so I see no reason not to keep giving it a go at this time of year

Fishing did its typical thing yesterday by bringing me straight back down to earth. Yep, I blanked. The conditions felt pretty good but the wind was a cold N to NE and the sun was shining. Most welcome to actually see that giant orb in the sky I might add, but something on the bass fishing front was obviously off and we didn’t trouble the scorer………….

I was fishing (blanking) with the same lure rod yesterday as I was when I landed that 76cms bass in March 2024. Can’t get enough of it. Itching to tell you about these new Savage Gear rods in due course……………………

Which isn’t remotely going to stop me heading out bass fishing this time of year when specific locations look good with the right combination of tides and conditions. I know it’s now early January, but I have caught bass in every month of the year in Cornwall or Devon, and as per the title of this blog post - my biggest bass in 2024 came on 26th March. I remember the conditions looking seriously good and I had previously caught a few bass in the rough vicinity in February, but I didn’t expect to connect with a rather lovely 76cms long bass towards the end of March - a month which I have always found seriously tough for any kind of bass fishing around here. A blog post about that fish and session is here.

My March bass from last year

I don’t expect that to change and every single winter “season” as such is very different on the bass fishing front around here, but if you don’t go you will never know. I love being out there regardless, I have always got gear to test and think about, I love shooting photos, I love the exercise, and I love trying different techniques and looking for new marks etc. I have been hearing some interesting reports about some good bass fishing in a bunch of different areas, so whilst I don’t tend to fish quite as much at this time of year, there’s nothing which is convincing me not to get out there and have a go. At some point I am going to do some upgrade work on this website and blog, it should all be fine but apologies in advance if anything doesn’t work quite how it should. I am on my own with my work and I am always learning as I go. You all have a good weekend………
