How many times have I been to Ireland but I’m literally bouncing with excitement at heading to Kerry again for some fishing and filming
Damn right there is still a strong element of the thrill at being able to (relatively) freely move around again, but ever since that first time our ferry pulled into a very misty and murky Cork harbour many moons ago now, Ireland has exerted a pull on me the like of which I can’t really explain. I have been on countless photography, filming and fishing trips all around the world and seen or indeed sometimes caught some ridiculous fish the likes of which most anglers will never be lucky enough to experience - but it’s still the prospect of a fishing or filming or guiding or doing a show trip to Ireland which causes my heart to race more than anything else in this fishing obsessed life I lead…………….
So it obviously isn’t only the relative size or power of the fish I might or might not encounter over there which is the biggest pull. A 10lb jack crevalle will pull about a hundred times harder than even the liveliest double figure bass could ever hope to pull even on a good day, but if fishing was only about the size and/or power of the intended quarry then I would suggest that a lifelong appeal or addiction to the drug would be impossible to maintain. Surely so much of the appeal of what we are so in love with here has to be the places and the people combined with the fishing? You know how I will gladly take bass over any other fish, but it’s the fish combined with the techniques and locations and the many good people I know which makes it what it all is.
Anyway, I am driving over to Kerry first thing on Saturday morning to do some filming related work with Savage Gear for various YouTube videos and so on. I will be away for a week then back home for a couple of weeks, then back out to Kerry again for a guiding trip which I am very excited about as well. Our filming next week will obviously be based around bass fishing and various products we either have or which are coming out in due course, but if the weather and conditions are kind to us then we will also try and film some pollack and maybe wrasse fishing from the rocks as well. I have got some lures in some specific colours which I can’t wait to put in front of some of those wonderful west coast Irish pollack!
I will do all I can to keep you posted with photos and fishing reports from out there and so on, but if I don’t post as much as I’d like then please bear with me because I know how filming tends to go, and especially when we have as much daylight as we currently have at this time of year - it gets hectic! You all have a good weekend and I will do what I can to keep in touch next week……………..
