Hope you’re all okay after that storm, I’m thinking of looking around for a hair care sponsorship!

I reckon we got pretty lucky here in south east Cornwall with that storm which came through in the early hours of yesterday morning. The reports from the Channel Islands are quite something and I saw on the BBC website that down on the Pointe du Raz on the north west coast of France they had wind gusts to over 120mph. The currents around that point are insane. I hope you are all okay and of course somewhat selfishly I am hoping that the open coast can sort itself out because there are autumn bass to be fished for!

I got up at 3.30am on Thursday morning because really strong NW winds are not great where I live and I got to thinking which is always bad for my sleep. The last time we had a really bad NW storm some serious trees came down, and luckily the owners of the land which borders our house decided to take down a couple of big ash trees fairly recently. Neither tree was in imminent danger of actually coming down, but both trees had ash dieback and at some point they would have fallen. One of them could easily have hit our house so I am rather glad the trees are no more. Our wood burners are also rather happy as well.

Friday last week when the conditions were rather lovely…………

At 3.30am on Thursday morning it wasn’t bad around here at all, but reports of more western parts of Cornwall getting a hammering were coming in on the excellent Kernow Weather Team on Facebook. I went out the back of the house at 5.30am and it had gone completely still and had also stopped raining - either we were in the eye of the storm or else it wasn’t going to happen. Within half an hour it was frigging raging outside though, but luckily the worst of it seemed to go through relatively quickly and I was out for a breezy but safe dog walk at about 9.30am. Storm was wondering what the hell was going on because she never has to wait so long for her first walk or run of the day, and I was quite surprised how little tree related damage I found out there. I hope wherever you are that you got away as lightly as possible.

The day before the Storm hit I did go and have a good look at the coastline to see what it was like and whether there was a chance of fishing it. I think the actual open coast conditions were potentially fishable, but the moment you get a good bit of colour in the water around here it also fills up with weed. I did a quick and rather silly little video above and then headed for home to see if I could find a hair care sponsorship deal! Which hair product company wouldn’t want to look after a 50 year old man with hair like that eh? I continue with my eternal quest to make my children oh so proud of their dad!

I have done a bit of work on this website to update some of the Fishing Tackle pages, and especially the “My Go-To Bass Fishing Lures”, “My Go-To Bass Fishing Rods, Reels and Lines” and “My Typical Surf Fishing Setup” sections. The Fishing Tackle section of this website gets a lot of traffic and I do my best to keep it up to date whilst recognising that I am always slightly behind. You all have a good weekend, see you next week, roll on some properly fishable conditions because I absolutely love this time of year for the open coast…………….
