Caught a bunch of February bass out here in Guernsey, I’d almost forgotten how exciting it is to fish these waters, the ground and currents are incredible
This is going to be a short blog post because I am writing it on Sunday evening and I am struggling to keep my eyes open. I went for a 5k run first thing yesterday morning in some really hectic weather - literally getting hit by spray from the waves as I ran around part of the coast path - and then three of us headed over to Herm which is a small island close to Guernsey. Loads of walking and fishing, we never saw another person all day, the weather was pretty glorious, and we had a bunch of bass. I even saw a few fish taken on surface lures which is pretty cool for February………..
The photos here are from my first day’s bass fishing in Guernsey on Saturday. Simon is the lad who is so kindly giving me a bit of a taste of his local bass fishing. We ended up on one mark which was only going to fish for a short period - you move around a lot out here, the tides are incredible, there is a hell of a lot of water moving in and out - and it was some of the most exciting water in which you could ever hope to fish for bass. Waves, current, structure, loads of fizzed up white water, you just knew there were fish around - and there were. We are out and about for most of the day today, so in due course I will give you more of a report on the bass fishing I have been lucky enough to see out here. If you know the Channel Islands then you will have a good sense of the incredible amounts of awesome looking bass ground - and it’s incredibly exciting to fish………….
