Ever get the feeling almost straight away that you’ve made the wrong plan? I’m on the excellent “The Lure Fishing Podcast” again
What I had planned to do was go out night fishing on Wednesday, but after my first combination jog/walk for 5k in the morning, some fishing in the afternoon which revolved around a decent walk, then a dog walk, when I said to my wife I was going to head out fishing at about 10am that night her words were along the lines of “don’t be a fu&%^ng idiot”! I was insistent on going night fishing but eventually came to realise that I was being a bit of an idiot when I was in bed for 9pm because I was absolutely knackered…………..
I’m getting there, but it’s going to take some time, so instead I was up early on Thursday morning to take advantage of a 6.15am high water out on the coast. I knew it was at best a 50/50 call, but I thought I might have at least a half hour window around first light and the first of the ebb which I really like for where I chose to go. I was on my own so I wasn’t going to do a big yomp into the middle of nowhere - I will get back to that sort of things soon - but I kinda fancied it and to be honest it feels so good to be going fishing again that I’ll take a 50/50 call right now.
But it felt so dead from the off and I didn’t feel any bass love at all yesterday morning. It continues to fascinate me how different parts of the UK fish so differently for bass, indeed a couple of mates were fishing many, many miles further east last weekend and they had the most ridiculous couple of days of fishing for a lot of big bass in flat calm and gin-clear conditions. I made a bad call yesterday morning but I couldn’t quite do exactly what I wanted to do and there’s always a chance I guess. Hell, to be wandering a quiet bit of coastline at first light and flinging a few different lures around is quite good enough for me at the moment.
I was honoured to be asked back by Cormac Walsh to record another podcast with him for his excellent “The Lure Fishing Podcast”. I said to Cormac that I had no problem at all talking about my recent heart attack, so there’s a bit of that on there together with a hell of a lot of excited bass fishing chat. One of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet, Cormac is going from strength to strength with his fishing podcast and I implore you to subscribe and listen to them all. I believe that new episodes come out every couple of weeks, and the one I recorded with Cormac is either here or linked to below. You all have a good weekend, roll on more of the outstanding Rugby World Cup…………..
