Consistently the best two fishing podcasts I know of

I reckon a fair number of you here probably listen to various podcasts, but have you found any good ones on fishing? I wish I could tell you about some bass fishing based podcasts based here in the UK or Ireland, but I don’t know of any. Pandemic aside and wishing of course for a speedy return to normal, I would always argue that fishing is a truly global pastime or sport, so as much as striped bass over in the US are generally more numerous and definitely a whole lot bigger than our single bass species which we love very much, I happen to think that there are a lot of very interesting connections between the two fisheries……………..

And the two best fishing podcasts I know of and listen to regularly are based primarily around fishing for striped bass on the north east coast of the USA, an area I might add that I can’t wait to get back to. Fishing is all fishing and I love listening to fishing based stuff from across the pond. The single best fishing podcast I know of is a relatively new one, and it’s from those rather excellent Surfcaster’s Journal people. The podcast is called the “Surfcaster’s Journal Night Shift podcast” and you can find it here plus of course wherever you usually access your podcasts (for me it’s the excellent and easy to use Overcast app on my iPhone). The addiction that is fishing with lures for these magnificent fish runs deep through this brilliant podcast - some fascinating guests doing fascinating things within the world of striped bass.

Then there’s the really good “Seven Stripes Fishing” podcast which you can find here, plus wherever you access your podcasts. This podcast tends to major on striped bass fishing but also deals with a lot more of the mainly saltwater fishing around the huge Cape Cod area especially. Fairly recently they put out one of the single best fishing podcast episodes I have ever listened to - linked to above - and I urge you to listen to it because the parallels between their ups and downs of the striped bass fishery and our own bass fishing are worryingly identical in many respects. This episode is called “The History of Striped Bass Management, Brad Burns, Fred Jennings Stripers Forever” and it’s a fascinating but also pretty scary listen. I think that a lot of UK anglers seem to think that the north east coast striped bass fishery is this flawless entity that is full of only massive fish. I urge you to listen to this single episode……………...
