Book review - Destination Angler III by Dave Lewis (the perfect time of year for such a glorious escape)

I don’t know about you but I’ve just about had enough of winter already and it’s not even Christmas yet! If you are in a similar boat to me then I would implore you to grab a copy of Dave Lewis’s latest book “Destination Angler III” and quite literally luxuriate in more glorious tales of fishing from all around this amazing planet we inhabit. It is quite extraordinary how much fishing related travel Dave has done over the years, and lucky for us he uses his wonderfully approachable writing style to take us along via the pages of these books………..

If you have read the first two instalments in this book series - Destination Angler and Destination Angler II - then you will know what to expect, and if you haven’t then I would urge you to banish those early winter blues and settle down to read this latest version. If you know an angler as a friend or family member then I would also suggest that Destination Angler III would be the perfect Christmas present. Who doesn’t love reading about amazing fishing?

I love the foreword by Phil Williams and also the introduction by Keith Arthur, but of course a book like this is a tale of multiple trips around the world of fishing by a fishing journalist who has basically done the lot and knows how to engage us within the adventures so well. I particularly love the chapter about filming with the late great John Wilson because having worked with that same director many years ago I can visualise how it would have all gone down. The front cover is of Dave holding a roosterfish which I will tangle with at some point before I get old and crotchety - say no more! - and I did have a bit of a giggle at the first few paragraphs of the first chapter as the lucky bastard got upgraded on a flight to the Bahamas. It hasn’t happened to me yet!

There are heaps of photos throughout the book, but as much as I like seeing the various fish which are caught in the numerous chapters, you are really buying this book to take yourself away from everyday life and dream about the sort of fishing which this book describes so well. This book costs £35 and you can get a copy by emailing Dave Lewis on david.lewis21@hotmail.com - I would urge you to do so. Big respect to Dave for using lockdown to write Destination Angler III, and I see via Facebook that he is back to travelling all over the place for his fishing again. Roll on Destination Angler IV……………….
