A bunch of new Savage Gear lures and/or new lure colours are in the UK now (smaller 120mm Gravity Sticks, Sandeel V2 Weedless new colours etc.)
Our brand new smaller 120mm size Gravity Stick soft plastics are just starting to appear in shops and on websites etc. I have been fishing with these smaller, 120mm/13g lures for a fair while now, and I could not be prouder of what Mads Grosell and I have done together on these things. We were always intending to do a smaller size, but we were never going to take them to market until we got the casting and swimming completely right. These things fly………..
I love the new 120mm Gravity Stick Pintail rigged on the 2g belly-weight weedless hook which rather usefully comes in the packet together with the lures
The original Gravity Stick Paddletail compared to the new smaller size below. There are some subtle differences between the two sizes which you might not notice - except for the actual length of course!
And from the off with the smaller Gravity Stick 120 lures, I was asking if we could include the correct hooks and weight spikes and rattles in the same packet as the actual lures, so each "Gravity Stick Mini Kit" comes with 6 lures (2 x Paddletail, 2 x Pulsetail, 2 x Pintail), 2 x 4/0 weedless hooks (one with belly weight, one without, with bigger eye to allow for lure clips and clip on weight etc.), 2 x 1.3g weight spikes, and 2 x glass rattles. I really wanted an angler to be able to buy a single packet of these lures and catch bass or pollack and wrasse etc. without having to search around for the right hooks and potentially not find them and so on. As with the larger Gravity Sticks, there are a bunch of different colours available.

Savage Gear Savage Minnow Weedless, Cotton Candy
Savage Gear Sandeel V2 Weedless, Lemon Candy
Sandeel V2 Weedless, Wakasagi
We have also done a bunch of new colours of both sizes of the Savage Minnow Weedless (12.5cm/28g and 10cm/16g) and Sandeel V2 Weedless (11.5cm/22g and 13cm/33g) lures - Cotton Candy, Wakasagi, Tequila and Lemon Candy. Yep, I pushed hard for these colours, with Cotton Candy being the first I asked for. At one point last year I had only two cotton candy Savage Minnow Weedless samples in the larger 12.5cm/28g size and I was hammering bass on them whilst at the same time literally praying that I didn’t go and snag them up when I was using them over particularly rough ground. I did lose one during a particularly good session and I seriously debated donning the Savage Gear budgie-smugglers and going in after it. The trials and tribulations eh?!
There is also a new hard lure, the Savage Gear Sea Bass Minnow in two sizes/four weights and a bunch of different colours - a 14cm length which weighs 18.5g in the Floating version and 21.7g in the Sinking version, then a smaller 12cm length which weighs 12.5g in the Floating version and 14.5g in the Sinking version. I am nothing to do with these new hard lures, but from the name “Sea Bass” you can probably guess that these lures were intended for large parts of the European market where they often have freshwater bass as well as (sea) bass - but of course a regular diving minnow works rather well for our bass as well as European sea bass (the same species in case you didn’t realise!).
Both lengths of these new Savage Gear Sea Bass Minnow lures come with three really good treble hooks, but that’s one too many for me so as per usual I remove the middle treble hook and the lures work just fine like that. I also remove the split ring on the eye of the lure. I can’t sit here and tell you that these good looking sub-surface minnows are going to change the (sea) bass world, but they are very well made, they are a really good price, they’ve got a really strong action that you and I both know works well for bass, and they share some DNA with the discontinued Savage Gear Prey series of hard lures which I keep hearing about from a fair few anglers who did really well with when they were still around. Slow down to say 75% of your usual cast and I like how well these Sea Bass Minnows cast, and they are really quite grippy in bouncier seas. I have played around a fair bit with a slower retrieve and my rod tip up instead of down and these things float my boat, plus I really, really like the range of colours.
The new Sea Bass Minnow in the short side washable lure box
I keep getting asked about the new Savage Gear washable lure boxes which suddenly appeared on the market and caught most people out. Check out a recent blog post here because I see that they are back in stock again. You all have a good weekend………….
